What is a Bento Box? I have been asked by customers what it is?
A Bento cake is a mini cake originated from South Korea. They are small 2 layer cakes covered with buttercream and packaged inside takeout boxes. They are tiny and you can fit a small inscription on the top of the cake. A Bento box consists of a small 4 inch cake and either 5 or 8 cupcakes. This is perfect for a small birthday and less expensive than a larger cake. The Bento box, bento cake, and cupcakes can be tailored for any occasion and can be made in any colour and decorated especially for the customer. I have made them for birthdays only but you could have them for an anniversary, or any occasion
What is the difference between a Bento cake and a normal cake people also ask?
So a Bento cake is a lot smaller 4 or 5 inch 2 layer and is a lot cheaper than a larger cake. I have got 8 small slices out of a 4 and 5 inch bento cake. They can be personalised but remember they are small butter creamed cakes. They can be customised for small occasions whatever they are
How many days do they last?
They typically last about 3 days in an airtight container
Can they be covered with fondant icing?
Not usually as they are so small and are just covered with buttercream
Why are they so popular?
Because they are so easy to make and are convenient
Can they be made in any flavour?
Yes they can be made in any flavour sponge and buttercream can be flavoured and coloured depending on the occasion. You can even have different coloured buttercream as I have on my photo
