So February is national bake for the family fun month, sounds great. Baking makes me happy and less stressed. During and since lockdown more people have been creative and have taken to baking which is amazing.
Do you like baking with the family or creating your own new recipes?? It is fun getting the family involved. It can also take the stress away of day to day life. It can be fun, makes you laugh and it’s also good for social skills?? Yes, it can include numeracy by weighing out the ingredients and also calculating costs. Literacy can be done by discussing what to do while baking and also the final result and ICT can be done by looking at photos or recipes on the internet including looking at videos.
Baking can include anything making cookies, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, bread, and more. You can even adapt the recipes for instance adapting it to be vegan by using vegan butter and creams or gluten-free by using gluten-free flour or egg, dairy-free by using substitutes. Obviously, you must avoid cross-contamination so use separate work areas and separate equipment when baking these foods. Vegan food is very popular at the moment and there are a lot of vegan ingredients in the shops, just shop around and experiment. I made vegan millionaire shortbread recently, it was ok but the caramel turned really quickly when cooking. I was using vegan condensed milk which I got from Sainsbury’s. Next time I have to just slightly cook it a little less. You learn a lot from baking, adapting, and changing recipes.
I love baking cakes and cookies and have put together decorate your own cookie kits which include iced cookies and edible paints along with icing and sprinkles to decorate at home and the best part is eating them. They are available throughout the year and we also provide themed ones e.g Halloween, Christmas Easter and they are also available in the school holidays to keep the children busy. They are great for parties and also for gifts for any occasion. They can be posted anywhere in the UK
Well enjoy national bake for the family fun month, have you been baking? I would love to know
Until next time
Happy baking
