So it’s national chocolate cake day today.
Do you like chocolate cake or do you find it too rich? I feel if you put some raspberry jam in the filling before the chocolate buttercream it doesn’t taste as sickly. My favourite is white chocolate and raspberry cake with a plain sponge, not chocolate, not too sickly. See below the chocolate cupcakes that I made, so full of chocolate, they loved them.
Do you prefer chocolate cake or cupcakes???
Found this by the history of fun facts. The history of chocolate cake goes back to 1764, when Dr. James Baker discovered how to make chocolate by grinding cocoa beans between two massive circular millstones.
A popular Philadelphia cookbook author, Eliza Leslie, published the earliest chocolate cake recipe in 1847 in The Lady’s Receipt Book. Unlike chocolate cakes we know today, this recipe used chopped chocolate.
During the 19th century, pastry chefs, notably in France and Austria, concocted sophisticated chocolate desserts to be enjoyed by the privileged elites.
For everyone else, chocolate in all its forms remained a rare treat, reserved for special occasions.
It was not until the 20th century, as cacao prices became more affordable, that chocolate cake reached the masses.
Chocolate cake is popular, you can have cakes covered in chocolate fondant, which tastes delicious, you can have chocolate cupcakes and not forgetting the very popular at the moment chocolate drip cakes. Especially if covered with chocolates as well.
Very interesting, some people prefer white, others like milk and others prefer dark, we are not all the same.
